FREE META ADS AUDIT

Facebook ads audit for ecommerce brands

Pixel and Conversions API, Advantage+ settings, creative testing and attribution, reviewed by a senior operator and judged on new customers rather than Meta’s own reported ROAS.

A Facebook ads audit checks whether Meta is learning from accurate purchase data, whether campaigns and Advantage+ settings give it room to find new customers, whether creative is diverse enough to keep costs down, and whether Meta’s reported results match your store. Our free Meta ads audit covers all four in 30 minutes.

Why Meta accounts need auditing more often in 2026

Costs are rising faster than results for the typical account. Meta’s average price per ad rose 12% year over year in the second quarter of 2026 (Meta, July 2026), and across more than 40,000 brands Triple Whale found median CPM up 13.24% to $15.06 while the median conversion rate slipped to 1.53% (Triple Whale, August 2026). Paying more per impression and converting slightly fewer of them is the default path for any account that is not actively improving.

The platform is also changing underneath advertisers. Advantage+ sales campaigns replaced Advantage+ shopping campaigns, and Meta has deprecated the old campaign APIs (Meta for Developers, June 2025). Attribution settings changed twice in 2026, and Shopify’s checkout upgrade moved tracking out of the old additional scripts box. Each change is manageable on its own. Together they mean an account that was set up well a year ago may be learning from different data today.

What we check in a Meta ads audit

Signal: Pixel, Conversions API and event quality

Meta recommends running the Conversions API alongside the Pixel and deduplicating events with a shared event ID (Meta for Developers). We check that purchases are counted once, that purchase values reflect discounts, that Shopify’s data sharing level is set as high as your policies allow (Shopify Help Center), and which customer parameters are missing from Event Match Quality, which Meta scores out of 10.

Structure: Advantage+, learning and existing customers

An ad set generally needs about 50 optimization events within seven days of its last significant edit to exit learning, per Meta’s guidance as summarized by PPC Land (PPC Land, September 2026). We look for budgets split too thin to learn, frequent edits that keep resetting the clock, and existing customer settings that let prospecting spend drift toward people who already buy from you.

Creative: diversity, fatigue and testing rhythm

Creative now does most of the targeting on Meta. Meta has reported that creative diversification produced a 32% improvement in cost per acquisition and a 9% increase in reach in its own study (Retail TouchPoints, May 2024). We count genuinely different concepts, check frequency against hook and hold rates, and review whether tests have written kill and scale rules. The method behind that is on our performance creative page.

Measurement: attribution and new customers

Meta measures the revenue it believes it caused, inside its own window. We check which attribution setting each campaign optimizes on, whether it was chosen deliberately, and whether Meta’s reported ROAS moves with new customer acquisition in the store. Our guide to the Meta attribution window covers the 2026 settings in detail.

Want to run the first pass yourself? These ten checks cover the ground we review first. Work down the list in order and stop at the first failure, because everything below it depends on the data above it.

If an item fails and the fix is not obvious, that is the point to bring in a second pair of eyes. Our guide to Facebook ads that are not converting walks through the most common failures in order, and Facebook ads for Shopify covers the Shopify-specific setup.

The check worth adding to every Meta audit: overlap with other channels

Meta does not run alone, and it rarely gets judged that way. Jason Lu walked through an overlap check in Triple Whale’s public Moby Deep Dives session that found 52% of customers acquired through Shop campaigns had touched Meta first. That single number changed how both channels were valued and budgeted: cutting Meta because its own report looked weak would have quietly starved the channel that was getting the credit.

What this does not claim: an overlap check shows touch points, not causation, and the right split depends on each brand’s path to purchase. It is still a check worth running before any budget moves between channels, and we include it in every Meta ads audit. When the brief is bigger than Meta, the paid media audit looks across every channel at once.

What you get, and how it works

You leave with a read on your Meta signal and tracking, a view of where the account structure leaks budget, and three fixes ranked by impact that you can hand to whoever runs the account. Request it with the form below; read-only access or a screen share is enough, and a senior operator reviews the account before the 30 minute call. There is no pitch.

The audit fits ecommerce brands spending $50K or more a month on paid media with Meta as a major line, most often in apparel, fashion and accessories, or wellness and supplements. For ongoing management after the audit, see Meta ads management. If Google carries a large share of your budget too, the Google Ads audit covers Search, Shopping and Performance Max.

Common questions

How do I audit my Facebook ads?

Start with tracking: compare Meta purchases with Shopify orders for the same days and confirm the Pixel and Conversions API are deduplicated. Then review account structure and the learning phase, creative diversity and fatigue, and attribution settings. Judge the result on store-side new customer numbers, not only on Meta’s reported ROAS.

What is a good Event Match Quality score?

Meta scores Event Match Quality out of 10 for how well the customer information sent with an event matches Meta accounts. Higher is better, but the useful audit question is which customer parameters are missing and whether you are entitled to send them, rather than chasing a particular number.

How often should you audit Meta ads?

A full review once a quarter, and a focused check after any change that touches signal: a new theme or checkout, a new Shopify app that fires events, a change in data sharing settings, or a large budget increase. Most Meta problems start as a quiet tracking change.

Is the Facebook ads audit free?

Yes. It is a free 30 minute review that ends with three fixes ranked by impact, and no retainer is required to start. Nothing is pitched on the call, and the fixes are yours whether or not we work together.

Do you audit Instagram ads too?

Yes. Instagram is bought through the same Meta Ads Manager, so placements, Reels and creator content are part of every Meta ads audit.
